Early Microscope by Engelbert and Hensoldt in Wetzlar, c. 1864

Signature on the table "Engelbert u. Hensoldt Wetzlar", serial no. 220, original lacquered brass with blackened iron base, height 12 ? in., the heavy base and unusual lower tripod column distinguish this microscope, one numbered objective (no. 3), the objective is similar in shape to Kellner's objectives, one numbered eyepiece (no. 1), draw tube coarse adjustment, fine adjustment by the knurled screw under the tripod column (similar to early Kellner microscopes), pinhole aperture disc under the stage, mechanically and optically very good, very nice case (lock missing), all parts are 100% original! – Ludwig Engelbert (1814–1887), a cousin of Carl Kellner (1826–1855) as well as his most important colleague, later joined forces with Hensoldt and they began manufacturing microscopes in 1861. This model still shows remnants of the Kellner tradition in terms of the lenses and fine adjustment. A very rare masterpiece with small optical equipment.
