With bisque head and shoulder plate (probably by Gaultier), closed mouth, fixed tricolor blue eyes, pierced ears with one earring, cork pate, brown mohair wig and metal hands, holding a badminton racquet, a feather shuttlecock suspended on a wire, on grain-painted metal platform with 2 ?-inch (7 cm) spoked back wheels, 1 ?-inch (3.8 cm) angled front wheel and going-barrel movement stamped "G. Vichy, Paris", in original drop-waist crimson satin costume with gold satin details and silk stockings, ht. figure 10 ? in. (27 cm) including wig, 12 in. (31 cm) including base, with size 8 steel key, small chip to right ear-piercing hole, tiny rub on tip of nose, usual wear to costume, working condition but bell-crank for movement of arm and shuttlecock missing. – Note: The girl turns in a circle while looking from left to right. The figure’s right arm and the shuttlecock are designed to move, creating the illusion that she is keeping the shuttlecock in the air with her racquet. An early French automaton with rare sporting motif, in attractive original condition.
