3 Self-Portraits by Pierre Molinier, 1958 onwards

Pierre Molinier (1900–1976) became known in 1951 for his painting "Le Grand Combat" (The Great Battle) at the 20th Salon des Indépendants de Bordeaux. Considered offensive at the time, it was acquired by the French politician Roland Dumas. André Breton included Molinier in the Surrealist group in 1955. From the 1960s onward, Pierre Molinier devoted himself to visual and photographic works of self-portraiture using photomontages, exploring eroticism and the staging of the body as a precursor to Body Art. The following are available: Mounted under a 28 x 24 cm passe-partout, three self-portraits from 1958 onward, all with handwritten notes or the actual title on the reverse. Image 3: "Déforme le personage" 17.5 x 12.4 cm, cutout in passe-partout 11.4 x 5.2 cm. In this full-body self-portrait (c. 1965), the sixty-year-old artist removes the mask and chooses a different motif: The face of his youth combined with his body.
