Voigtl?nder & Sohn, Wien und Braunschweig. Both barrels are fitted for drop-in apertures and include their original mounting rings. 1) Giant lens no. 10247; height (including lens hood): 39.5 cm. Both lens elements (front and rear) are missing from the 14.5 cm diameter barrel. Historical context: Even after the advent of 35mm and rollfilm cameras, which enabled much faster portrait sessions, there remained a conservative clientele that placed its trust solely in large brass lenses. For these customers, the actual lens elements were removed; and hidden beneath the dark cloth, the portrait session was then captured using a Leica shooting through the empty lens barrel – a method that appealed to these clients, as they were already accustomed to making multiple exposures using plate cameras equipped with "multiplier" backs. Also suitable for decorative display on historical equipment located in public areas where it might otherwise be left unprotected. Well-preserved condition.
